Our Story

Dinner By Six Recipes

A family gathered around a dining table sharing a home-cooked meal

Where It All Started

Like most families, evenings in our house were a sprint. Between school pick-ups, hockey practice, piano lessons, and a pile of laundry that never seemed to shrink, getting dinner on the table felt like a miracle most nights.

One winter afternoon — kids at the door, backpacks dropped, everyone hungry and a little cranky — I made a promise to myself: dinner will be ready by six. Not a bag of chips, not a drive-through detour. A real, home-cooked meal.

Dinner By Six Recipes was born from that promise. Every recipe on this site has been made in our actual kitchen, with real grocery store ingredients, tasted by real (sometimes picky) kids. If it didn't make it to the dinner table a second time, it didn't make it to the site.

We're a Canadian family, so you'll find plenty of recipes that fit our climate and our pantry — hearty casseroles, warming soups, and weeknight favourites that stretch a grocery budget without sacrificing flavour.

Our Promise

Quick & Realistic

Every recipe is designed for real weeknight life — nothing that needs hours at the stove or a specialty ingredient you can only find online.

Family Tested

Our recipes are tested by actual family members, including kids who have very strong opinions. If it passes the table test, it earns a spot here.

Budget-Friendly

Great meals don't need to cost a fortune. We focus on affordable, everyday ingredients from any Canadian grocery store.

The Person Behind the Recipes

Sarah M.

Founder & Home Cook

Hi! I'm a busy parent, part-time graphic designer, and lifelong food lover based in Ontario, Canada. I grew up helping my mum in the kitchen — she had an incredible ability to turn simple ingredients into something that made everyone feel taken care of.

I started this site to share the recipes our family actually eats, not the ones that look beautiful but take three hours and a culinary degree to pull off. I want you to finish work, get dinner on the table, sit down with the people you love, and actually enjoy the evening.

Have a recipe you want to share, or just want to say hello? Send me a message — I'd love to hear from you.
